Grading and Reporting

Oak Grove School utilized standards-based reporting in grades K-5.

What is a standards based mindset?
The goal of standards based learning and developing a standards based mindset is to provide the teacher, student, and parent an accurate picture of the student’s learning and to encourage a dialogue about how the student can move toward mastery of standards.

Standards based learning:

  • Is a process that takes place over time
  • Provides feedback for students to focus their learning
  • Allows teachers and parents to keep track of next steps for student growth

The following key is helpful in understanding the student report card. It is important to note, teachers report on end of trimester proficiency. Therefore, a student may receive a '3' in Trimester 1 and a '2' in Trimester 2 as learning expectations increase. Reporting indicates a student's abilities based on where the teacher expects the student to be at a particular point in the year.
