School Board Member Appreciation Day
Wednesday, November 15, is designated as "School Board Members Day" in Illinois. This day serves to recognize the outstanding efforts of nearly 6,000 elected school board members across our state, including the seven dedicated members of the OGS Board. On behalf of our administration, staff, students, and their families, I want to thank our Board members for volunteering their time to serve in this role. Board leadership matters, now more than ever, and is essential to bringing forth the voices of the community to realize the vision for their schools. A special thank you to each of you -- Raabia, Emily, Henry, Krysia, Cathie, Nuriddin, and Kim.

Veterans Day Celebration
Our Veterans Day celebration was a wonderful event last Friday! We recognized and showed appreciation to over 30 veterans and service members who attended the annual ceremony. More than 125 people were in attendance and many more viewed the live-streamed broadcast to join in from afar. Thank you to the 8th grade teachers and students, the band and choir directors, as well as all of those behind the scenes who helped to make this day special for all of our guests. This is a longstanding Oak Grove tradition that illustrates how important these members of the community are to Oak Grove and allows for our 8th grade students to take on leadership roles in the many aspects of planning and executing a celebration of this magnitude.
Please view photos from the event here. A recording of the event can be found here.
STEM
In Oak Grove’s second year of launching Project Lead the Way (PLTW) for our middle school students, the newly added course, Automation and Robotics, has been a huge hit! The students were so excited to show off their machines during a trade show that took place for all students and staff to visit. Awesome job, engineers!
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee - Family Survey
During the 2020-21 school year, Oak Grove families, students and staff were asked for their feedback in regards to equity and inclusion practices at Oak Grove. The information shared from the survey helped to guide the mission, vision and focus of the current DEI committee. We are reaching out to our families, staff and students again to complete the survey in order to see the impact of our efforts over the past two years and develop future areas of focus. Please take a moment to complete this survey by November 17. The DEI committee appreciates your time and values your feedback.
