Weekly Update - 10/16/23

Mr. MurrayMessage from the Principal

Congratulations!
Oak Grove had two cross country members participate in the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) state finals over the weekend.  8th grader Elsie placed 16th overall and 8th grader Carter placed 88th overall.  Both finished their cross country careers at Oak Grove with personal records. Well done!

School Mascot Logo Contest
Starting tomorrow, all Oak Grove students will have a chance to cast their vote for our new school mascot logo! This logo will not replace the district logo, but it will represent our beloved eagle seen at parades, assemblies, and after school events! We are excited to give our students an opportunity to have a voice in choosing the one they like best! This is a wonderful way to bring our school together across all grade levels. For updates along the way, please follow us on social media. Which eagle will be the winner?

Red Ribbon Week 2023
Beginning October 23 through October 27, Oak Grove students will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week. The Red Ribbon campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation. The Red Ribbon symbolizes a commitment to a drug free, healthy lifestyle. No use of any illegal drug and no abuse of a legal drug. The school will be decorated throughout with the Red Ribbon message. We at Oak Grove will be educating our children about the dangers of drugs and encouraging them to lead healthy, successful lives and making positive decisions.

To further support this endeavor, the district has invested into an additional support service through ReferralGPS. ReferralGPS is a service providing assistance to our community in finding local mental-health and substance use related treatment resources. ReferralGPS is available for use by district students, staff, and families at no cost. safety sign

PLEASE READ- Safety

It has been brought to our attention that students are being picked up from the back of our school on Lexington Road, within the zone designated as "no parking, standing, or stopping." If you are picking up your child in a car, you will need to use the upper parking lot to do so. OGS buses are at full capacity and our car line clears withn approximately ten minutes, making pick-up far more convenient than in past years. All students will be reminded this week that only walkers are to exit out the back doors to the field. The Village, community members, and school administration have all requested the support of law enforcement to monitor Lexington Road to ensure student safety remains the priority.

Principal Appreciation Day

Principal's Appreciation Day is this Friday, October 20. We would like to thank Principal Ryan Murray for his amazing leadership!  We are so grateful for your enthusiasm, hard work, and dedication to Oak Grove School.  You are the best!
