Weekly Update - 09/19/2022
A message from Mrs. B and Mr. Murray
Skeleton Donation
Last week, Mrs. Sheldon’s class received a skeleton donation from an OGS alumni family. Mrs. Sheldon shared, “The students are really enjoying the new skeleton. They voted last week on a name. Bob is the name that won! Thank you so much for this donation. We will have fun using it for years to come!"
Fire Department Open House
The Libertyville Fire Department is delighted to announce it will be hosting its annual Open House on Saturday, October 15th from 1:00-4:00 PM at Fire Station 1 (1151 N Milwaukee Ave). Fun will include: Kids Combat Challenge, Slide Down a Fire Pole, Station Tours, Fire Safety House, Special Rescue Demonstrations, Recruitment Table, Games, Giveaways, and More!
Bus Company Update
At the beginning of August, the bus company had nine candidates training to be drivers. Several quit before completing the training. At this point, the bus company is in the process of completing the training process for two candidates. If/When they pass the assessment, the bus company has committed these two candidates to drive two of our afternoon routes. I wish I had better news, but unfortunately, we are still in a holding pattern - with perhaps some hope near the end of October.

Fall Placement Appeals
Parents/guardians of students in grades 4-7 can request an additional review of student placement for consideration into Oak Grove’s talented and gifted (TAG) program for the 2022-23 school year. Families can appeal placement for a child in ELA and/or Math once per calendar year which is reviewed by the Advisory Council. This process is discussed on pages 11 and 12 of the TAG Handbook. To initiate an appeal, please complete the Parent Feedback form and email to Leslie Weber (weber@ogschool.org) and Alexa Dunn (adunn@ogschool.org) by Friday, October 7. In completion of the form, please do not reference your child by name when providing examples and explanations. All student information is to remain anonymous when reviewed by the Advisory Council. Parents will be notified via email regarding the testing process and a final decision about placement made by the Advisory Council.
iReady Fall Benchmark Testing
Over the course of the past few weeks, your child took the iReady Diagnostic Assessment in reading and mathematics. iReady is an online program that helps us better understand your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. iReady allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction. All student reports will be sent out via email on Friday, September 23rd.
